What is a Zodiac Killer Themed Murder Mystery Party?
A Zodiac Killer themed murder mystery party is an interactive game where guests take on the roles of suspects and work together to solve a fictional murder case inspired by the infamous Zodiac Killer. Each guest is assigned a character with a backstory and motives, and throughout the party, they must gather clues, interact with other guests, and ultimately reveal the identity of the "killer." The characters are all unique-- from the disgraced detective assigned to the case to mysterious locals and fishy out of towners, this game is filled with fun characters!
See some example characters here:
- Amanda Springfield (F): Amanda is a policewoman, and is currently working on earning her detective ranks. It is a very long and stressful process, and despite not officially being certified, she has already taken her own initiative to do some detective work. If she is successful, this could be what she needs to launch her career, and if not, then Amanda would be blacklisted.
- Lucy Sanderson (F): Lucy is a business woman, and she works for one of San Francisco’s biggest companies. As one of the only female executives in the company, she deals with a lot of pressure and stress that men don’t have to deal with, and it is taking a toll. She recently went a bit crazy and disappeared for three weeks. When she came back, she acted like nothing had happened, and no one knew how to react.
- Ben Andrews (M): Ben is an employee at a gas station. It is boring, minimum-wage work, but after dropping out of high school, he doesn’t have any other option. Ben was trying to save enough money to go to night school, but after battling a recent gambling addiction, he lost everything, and was close to getting fired from his job as well.
- Michael Gordon (M): Michael just moved to the city, and was very uncomfortable there. He had a generous trust fund, and it was enough to live on while he was looking for work. However, it seemed like no one was hiring, and Michael was getting worried. He didn’t have much money left, and if he didn’t find work quick, he wouldn’t be able to pay his monthly rent.
- Samantha Louis (F): Samantha is an engineer, and she was in the middle of a project involving military robotics. However, there was an accident, and the project got temporarily suspended. Samantha was on paid leave while the incident was being investigated, and she had an abnormal amount of free time which she wasn’t sure what to do with.
- Joey Oliver (M): Joey is an actor, although he isn’t a very successful one. It is hard to find work in the city, especially considering how many other actors there are. He has a side job as a waiter, but tries to spend most of his time auditioning. It is hard to get so many rejections, but all he needs is one project before he managed to make it big.
- Eleanor Donald (F): Eleanor is a babysitter, and she hates it. The kids which she watches are brats, and the parents aren’t much better. However, it pays well, and she is planning to do it just for another year or two. While she doesn’t know what her next step is going to be, if she spends much longer with those annoying brats she might just kill somebody.
- Wells Tucker (M): Wells is a journalist at a local news organization. He typically gets assigned the boring stories, but has been working his way up to the more serious stuff. Recently, he was assigned to cover the Zodiac killer, and Wells could not be more excited. He finally got to cover real news, and he wasn’t going to mess it up.
Setting the Scene
To create an immersive experience, set the scene with Zodiac Killer themed decorations. Use black and red color schemes, cryptic symbols, and newspaper clippings to create an eerie atmosphere. Play ambient music from the 1960s and 1970s to transport your guests back to the time of the Zodiac Killer's reign of terror.
Character Assignments
Prior to the party, assign each guest a character role and provide them with a character sheet detailing their backstory, objectives, and any secrets they may be hiding. Encourage guests to fully embody their characters by dressing the part and staying in character throughout the evening. All of our mysteries come with comprehensive character packets that make it easy to play the part.
Clue Gathering
Throughout the party, guests use their information to mingle with the other suspects and solve the murder. Work together, or keep your cards close to your chest... but our games are filled with fun twists and turns that will leave everyone guessing!
Revelation and Resolution
As the party progresses, the suspects will narrow down who the killer is. Once everyone is done and ready to cast their vote, the confession can be read out loud. Once the killer is revealed, allow for a dramatic resolution where the motive and method are explained.
