Plot

Haunted House Murder Mystery Introduction To The Theme

“Oswald’s Horror House” was a haunted house that had garnered international fame for becoming one of the most terrifying in the world. With some of the scariest attractions the country has ever seen, the haunted house is guaranteed to make you scream. While there have been a few incidents in which people have gone into the haunted house and never came back out, “Oswald’s Horror House” was never found legally responsible… all just accidents. In fact, it only increased its fame.

With zombies, clowns, serial killers, and all sorts of horrific monsters being part of the attractions staff, each living and working in the haunted house for the entire year, “Oswald’s Horror House” attracted some of the greatest talent in the country. They often blended the lines between fantasy and reality, not just working as their characters, but instead living as them.

While everyone going to the haunted house went with the intention of getting scared, one customer got a bit more than he bargained for. Roman Cabello, a self proclaimed “monster hunter” went to “Oswald’s Horror House” in order to do research for his new business. Instead, he was murdered. Someone at the haunted house had killed him, leaving only a key, a sketch of Marbles the Clown, and a yellow bouncy ball by his body. He was found in “the pit”-- a room in the Horror house that changes every time someone walks through it.

It is up to you to figure out who killed Roman Cabello. It could be any of you, and it is up to you to figure out who had the motive, means, and opportunity to murder. Remember, no one knows who did it, not even the murderer themselves. Good luck.

Sample Characters (Actual Characters Will Vary Based on Number/Gender of Players)

Eleanor is the owner of “Oswald’s Horror House”, a haunted house which has garnered national fame. Known for being one of the most terrifying haunted houses to ever exist, she prides herself on her job. The house is a family business, but under Eleanor’s control, it has recently been failing; she needed to think of a way to get business back to how it used to be.

Luke is a clown who works at the haunted house. He just started a few months ago, but already he has a reputation for being one of the most horrifying workers. His costume is outstanding; the blood almost looks real. Luke draws inspiration from his past in order to create a very… realistic performance, and he is known as the scariest clown in town.

Bethany Baldwin is a ticket booth worker at “Oswald’s Horror House”. It’s an ironic job considering that she is easily terrified. She’s never even been inside of the haunted house, but everything inside of it is horrifying to her. Bethany has only been working there for summer, but she already has been roped in way above her head.

Noah works in the haunted house as a “zombie”. He absolutely loves it-- people are always terrified of him. Obviously, he isn’t an actual zombie, but he has experimented in the past to make a more realistic performance. He has eaten pig brains on more than a few occasions, and while it doesn’t actually do anything to make him more zombie-like, it makes him more confident.

Sunny is Eleanor’s niece and has been living with her for the last few years. Her parents died in an accident, but since she was an adult, she was able to take care of herself. However, some bad luck made it so she had nowhere else to turn but “Oswald’s Horror House”. Eleanor made her work to earn her keep; she worked in a concession stand, but it was better than being broke and homeless.

Bruce works in the haunted house as a “serial killer”. He wears a mask and wields a chainsaw, and has garnered attention due to his blood-curdling scream. There is nothing quite like it; when he screams, you can’t help but look. Bruce is actually a pretty normal guy outside of work, but when the mask is on, everything else is off the table.
